Geometra series: Cities, Lakes, Squares & Bridges
Human-made and natural landscapes are explored in an attempt to rethink topographical representations of place and space, with the resultant geometric shapes generated from the given names, intriguingly suggesting elevation diagrams, topographical mapping and aerial views, yet also remain as fields of abstract colour, akin to mid and late period Modernism.
With an interest in the origins of the terms geometer & geography, the artworks in the Geometra series employ system-based art procedures to generate unique geometric surface areas from specific locations. Utilising a self-written alphanumerical algorithm, the names of specific locations are converted into unique asymmetrical geometric shapes, akin to a form of abstract hieroglyphics for words rather than letters.
